Seasonal Ditch Rider - $22.00 - $25.00/hour DOQ 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position will assist the current UYWCD Facilities Operator in a seasonal capacity. With the assistance of the UYWCD Facilities Operator, you will be managing, calculating, and delivering water orders to the Stillwater-Five Pine Mesa Ditch and numerous lateral diversions along the ditch. Documenting all diversions and deliveries. The Ditch Rider is required to assist in completing daily water accounting reports to be filed with the District Engineer. The UYWCD will cover the cost(s) of internet access for the Ditch Rider for the purposes of communicating and filing reports with the District staff. The position requires a morning check in phone call (8 am) with most days starting by 11 am at a remote South Routt County location. The Ditch Rider typical work schedule will be Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday 11 am-7 pm including some “on-call” hours with scheduling coordinated with the UYWCD Facilities Operator and other facilities staff. This seasonal position will be from mid-May to the end of August. The Ditch Rider has experience with irrigated agriculture, understands the basics of water rights administration, has the ability to work independently, once trained, in remote outdoor environments, has the ability to accomplish a variety of field tasks, excellent communication skills and is very reliable. Basic computer skills are necessary for the documentation of water administration. Other duties as assigned. The Seasonal Ditch Rider position is managed by the to the UYWCD District Engineer.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Knowledge of irrigated agriculture and water measuring devices.
• Ability to operate District vehicles on and off road, including 4-wheel drive trucks and 4-wheeled ATV.

The ability to perform basic maintenance for these vehicles and a valid Colorado Driver’s License are required.
• Knowledge of standard office software, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Ability to communicate effectively with UYWCD staff and water users.
• Physical ability to perform strenuous maintenance work occasionally, lifting up to 50 lbs, walking up to 5 miles if necessary.
• Interest in water resources management.

PREREQUISITES:
• Experience demonstrating the required skills in a field environment.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Valid Colorado driver’s license
