Position Summary:  
The School Psychologist provides a range of services to students who demonstrate difficulties with learning, academic achievement, social/emotional functioning and behavior. This position serves as a psycho-educational service provider who is involved in proactive, preventative activities, as well as responding to identified concerns and student needs. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to determine the student’s eligibility for special services, appropriate programming, and ongoing progress. 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  
     Perform focused cognitive, social/emotional/behavioral, and functional behavioral assessments to maximize student achievement and success; interpret assessment data to inform instruction/intervention.
    Assist in the development and implementation of individualized behavior management plans and services.
    Provide school-based, multi-tiered counseling and social/emotional/behavior interventions services to individuals, groups, and parents; this includes ongoing direct services to students with developmental and emotional disabilities.
    Consult with school staff regarding classroom and school-wide approaches to behavior and development of positive behavior supports and interventions.
    Engage in individual and school-wide safety implementation, including prevention, assessment/intervention for students at-risk of harm to self or others, and crisis intervention.
    Provide consultation on mental health issues, student behavior, and academic achievement, including active participation on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Teams (MTSS).
    Facilitate and coordinate the referral of students and families to other service agencies and individuals providing mental health services and social supports.
    Participate in and/or conduct manifestation determination hearings.
    Prepares written reports that follow state guidelines in a timely manner.
    Complete functional behavior assessments, as needed.
    Disseminate information on mental health topics related to student needs.
    Serve as the Special Education Director designee when needed.
    Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs.  Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services.
    Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctoral degree in School Psychology or Masters & 60 semester hrs of school psych coursework, 1200 hrs internship (600 in schools), completion of an approved school psych prep program & practicum, and passing PRAXIS exam
• SSP License as a School Psychologist by the Colorado Department of Education.
• Experience in the school setting is preferred.
• Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with administrators, teachers, students and families, and community members.
• Ability to conduct studies, prepare reports and make oral presentations.
• Computer knowledge is required in computer-related subjects, and computer literacy is preferred for other content areas.
• Ability to maintain individual student records and class files.
• Ability to compile statistics for research and reports.
• Ability to discipline students in keeping with school and district procedures.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and the Board of Education.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions, proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.

Technology Skills:  Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
