Organization Overview
The High Country Conservation Center (HC3) is a community non-profit organization that promotes resource conservation in Summit County, Colorado. Our vision is to create a healthy planet through local action. Programs include recycling and composting, climate action, energy and water conservation, and sustainable food production. HC3 engages residents, visitors, and businesses in protecting our local environment.

General Description of Duties
The Energy Advisor assists with HC3’s Climate and Energy programs and serves as HC3’s energy efficiency expert. The Advisor will lead the Energy Smart Colorado program including providing homeowner education, conducting energy audits, and supporting local contractors with training. The Advisor will also support climate action initiatives such as participating in building efficiency working groups. This position requires a technical background in energy management and/or green building with the ability to multitask and provide effective public outreach. This position reports to the Climate Action Director.

Qualifications

Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably with major in related field.
• Candidates without bachelor’s degrees may be considered if they have more than 5 years of related work experience in energy or construction fields AND one of the certifications below.

Preferred Certifications and Experience
• Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst, Building Analyst-Technician, or Building Analyst-Professional certification. Experience with energy audits and energy ratings, including blower door, infrared camera, duct blaster, and basic energy upgrades.

Skills and Attributes
• At least three years of experience in environmental, nonprofit, and/or construction fields.
• Strong interest in environmental stewardship and conservation.
• Conceptual and practical understanding of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
• Experience working in office and customer service relations.
• Strong basic math skills and aptitude for learning and understanding energy efficiency and green building technical concepts.
• Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.
• Strong computer skills required, especially Word and Excel. Database experience a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal and written skills.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record are required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Energy Smart Colorado Residential Program (60%)
• Oversee Energy Smart program with support from Climate Action Manager. This program provides energy audits, energy advising, contractor referrals, and rebates to Summit County homeowners, all of which are responsibilities of this position.
• Develop annual program budgets, maintain rebate budgets, and keep Salesforce database updated.
• Maintain tracking processes for energy audits and energy improvements, including modeling savings from energy improvement projects and processing rebates.
• Follow up with and field questions from homeowners after their audit is completed, encouraging homeowners to make energy-efficiency upgrades.
• Attend monthly calls with Energy Smart partners across the state.
• Develop and execute Energy Smart workshops for community members and contractors. Coordinate workshop logistics – invitations, speakers, locations, etc.
• Work with Climate Action Director and Climate Action Manager to develop strategies to improve Energy Smart Colorado program.
• Support special projects as needed, such as developing and executing programs for HOAs and multi-family buildings.

Perform Home Energy Audits (20%)
• Obtain Building Performance Institute certification (paid for by HC3).
• Complete approximately 50 home energy audits annually.
• Deliver timely audit reports to customers and provide follow-up advising.

Climate Action Programs (10%)
• Support implementation of the Climate Action Plan through assisting Climate Action Director with committee meetings, projects, and events.
• Research and provide recommendations to Climate Action Director on energy program improvements to achieve Climate Action Plan goals.

Fundraising and Events (10%)
• Support HC3 fundraisers and events, including Party for the Planet, Save Our Snow, Concert in the Park, etc.

Position Information and Benefits
The position is full-time, year-round with the following benefits: health insurance, long-term disability insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, with one of these days worked at home. This position involves a mix of office work and time spent in the community conducting energy audits. Occasional evening and weekend work is also required. Starting pay range is $22 – 29/hour for candidates without BPI certifications. For candidates with energy management or energy auditing experience, a higher hourly wage may be considered. Additional compensation available for bilingual Spanish/English speakers.
