Maintenance Assistant
We are a real estate asset management company. We own, manage, and develop our own portfolio of properties including commercial office, retail, flex, warehouse, industrial lots, self-storage facilities and underdeveloped farmland. Our properties are located in Silver Spring, Aspen Hill, Kensington, Mount Airy and Howard County. Our headquarters are centrally located in the heart of Silver Spring's central business district, close to the Silver Spring Metro and only a few miles from Washington, DC, and the Washington Beltway.
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the general maintenance and housekeeping of the building’s interior and exterior areas. The Maintenance Assistant makes minor repairs and performs plumbing, carpentry, and painting duties, along with checking and repairing building lighting, locks, and hardware. The position is also responsible for minor cleaning of building, offices, restrooms, and lobby as well as tracking maintenance requests and relaying information to building management and/or engineer. The Maintenance Assistant is also responsible for tenant requests and repairs as assigned by management.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for keeping facilities clean and in good repair
- Responsible for keeping the building safe and secure during snow & ice
- Responsible for light landscaping duties as needed and checking building temperature in cold weather as assigned
- Maintaining all sanitizing equipment, rest rooms and free-standing hand sanitizing stations
- Making minor repairs and replacements to items such as bulbs and ballast in light fixtures, repairing leaky sinks and toilets, and various facilities, equipment, and electrical and plumbing issues
- Inspect equipment and systems and perform preventive maintenance as assigned
- Maintain indoor and outdoor areas of the building to include but not limited to restrooms, lobbies, hallways, floors, and grounds
- Track maintenance requests and relaying information to building management and building engineer and reporting deficiency or items that require follow up
- Cover the building in absence of Chief Building Engineer or Property Manager
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency certificate
- 1-year experience in a maintenance/housekeeping position is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of specific tools and equipment needed for the cleaning process and maintenance
- Skills in the use of hand and power tools
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, tenants, customers, and management
- Ability to work independently and take direction along with being self-motivated and having strong attention to detail
