VP Finance

The VP of Finance will be responsible for performing all financial functions for Blu Ventures, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficiency in financial operations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in financial management, accounting, audit, tax and reporting preferably within the venture capital and private equity industry. Key responsibilities will include:

1. Financial Management:

• Build / develop for Partnership approval and ongoing management of operating budgets.
• Manage day-to-day financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, employee benefits and general ledger entries.
• Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the integrity of financial information.

2. Reporting and Analysis:

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts for senior management and investors.
• Maintain and update Investor capital accounts
• Manage process to maintain up-to-date cap tables for all portfolio companies.
• Maintain current valuation models for portfolio companies.
• Manage outsourced Portal process and content for Port.Co. and investor Capital Account reporting
• Provide insightful financial analysis to support Partnership strategic decision-making and investment strategies.
• Manage regular LP communications (including quarterly and annual reports)
• Respond to ad-hoc LP requests regarding capital calls, commitments and other matters

3. Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, FINRA regs. and reporting and relevant laws applicable to venture capital and private equity firms.
• Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit and tax prep and reporting process.
• Coordinate with tax accountants to support QSBS calculations and reporting.
• Own investment closing process, including FINRA filings and gathering of investment documentation.
• Coordinate legal process for fundraising, including final execution of LP documents
• Own the firm’s Annual Partner D&O Insurance documentation and renewal process.

4. Cash Management:

• Oversee cash flow management and optimize liquidity to support investment activities.
• Own the firm’s expense policy and manage reimbursements.
• Develop VC Fund capital calls and oversee notice and collection.
• Monitor and manage banking relationships, including fund transfers and investment disbursements.

5. Investment Portfolio Support:

• Work closely with investment teams to assess the financial health and growth of portfolio companies.
• Provide financial guidance and support for due diligence processes.

6. Team Collaboration and Fundraising:

• Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
• Support and participate in fundraising activities including presentations to prospective LPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a financial role with increasing responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax, financial regulations and reporting standards.
• Private company valuation experience preferred.
• Preferably 5 years of financial experience in investment banking, venture capital or private equity.
• Proficiency in financial software and systems; Carta experience preferred
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
