BOILER TECHNICIAN

Maintain and supervise heating systems operations, maintenance of equipment, and installation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Troubleshoot, supervise, and/or make repairs on gas and fuel pressure lines, boilers, heaters, pumps, compressors, motors, controllers, reducing station, heat exchangers.
2. Schedule and supervise external contractors hired for work related to heating systems.
3. Direct boiler work such as tube, header and brickwork, casing work and flue work.
4. Install heating system equipment as required.
5. Prepare and maintain records on treatment, oil, gas and chemicals consumption and steam and hot water production.
6. Cooperate and work with State and other inspector's, as required.
7. Operate boilers and controls.
8. Train and supervise staff on operation and repair of equipment as assigned.
9. Participate in institutional professional development and training.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. Technical school graduation.
2. Four years experience as a journeyman, plumber, pipefitter, or mechanic, including one year of supervisory experience.
3. Knowledge of heating systems, boiler and other related power equipment, boiler chemistry and water testing procedures, and boiler codes and safety standards.
