Director of Professional Development & Education


PURPOSE

The Director of Professional Development & Education will be responsible for strategizing, developing, planning, design, development, implementation and evaluation of the professional development and education programs the association offers members and the industry. and executing the professional development and educational programs of the organization. The role will work collaboratively with volunteers and other service areas within the organization on both strategic and tactical levels.

Additional objectives of this role are to ensure that all events are planned and coordinated effectively and efficiently, while also providing excellent customer service to members and other event participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
  1. Develop strategy and priorities for the SEMA Education Department as well as direct a Senior Manager and the daily activities for the association’s members.
    1. Research and evaluate new opportunities to deliver professional development to SEMA members year-round.
    2. Ensure that individual member engagement is a top priority when delivering value to members.
    3. Understanding the changing landscape of education and as well as the learning platforms and technologies that are most appropriate to deliver high-quality programming.
    4. Continually develop and deliver educational courses, in coordination with speakers. Courses should be delivered in a variety of mediums: live webinars, on-demand online, conferences, and live in-services.
    5. Provide program support for volunteer learning programs, collaborating across departments and with staff liaisons to deliver value-focused, responsive resources to enhance the volunteer experience.
    6. Create, develop, implement, and evaluate educational offerings (e.g., online resources, webinars, and independent regional conferences) for the membership and ensure utilization and engagement over the long-term.
    7. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a variety of a variety of education and knowledge initiatives to support the association's digital learning strategy.
    8. Ensure consistency with the association’s strategic priorities through long-range, multi-year planning around impactful programs with substantial reach.
    9. Systematically review and evaluate the success of the educational programs and overall educational model, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans.

  1. Lead the planning and execution of the educational efforts at the annual SEMA Show.
    1. Collaborate with key stakeholders (internal and external) to identify priority topics, seminars and tracks that will be of significant interest to the annual events.
    2. Identify, recruit and contract with educational speakers to assist with the association’s educational programs.
    3. Serve as staff lead in overseeing strategic tradeshow partnerships with SCRS, TIA, and ICAR for purposes of extending and offering additional professional development to SEMA audiences.
    4. In partnership with the association’s internal stakeholders and support teams, ensure a high-quality presence and execution of education-related goals at the tradeshows.
  2. Creates and oversee multi-year goal setting and planning efforts around education.
  3. Establish the Education Department as a trusted internal resource to support the association’s programs and services in education and training delivery.
  4. Conduct regular reporting on department achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
  5. Prepare and administer budgets for the Education Department.
  6. When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.

RELATIONSHIPS
  1. Reports to Vice President, Councils and Membership.
  2. Supervises department’s Senior Manager of Professional Development
  3. Interfaces with all levels of staff as well as with Association members, industry representatives, councils and networks, and vendors providing educational information.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  1. A bachelor’s degree in education, masters preferred.
  2. 4-5 years creating coursework in curriculum development.
  3. Diplomatic Leader who possesses the ability to cultivate productive working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, and other service departments.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills with time-management awareness.
  5. Ability to abandon what is not working and test ideas and concepts through innovation, beta testing and curiosity.
  6. Understanding of standard budget accounting procedures.
  7. Experience and understanding in the following areas:
    1. Delivery models for in-persona and virtual professional development and training
    2. General career services
    3. Scholarship administration
  8. Knowledge of Macintosh or PC based computer systems and software.
