Position Description

Lee Montessori Public Charter School implements a series of Specials classes, which are school-based enrichment sessions that build on the Montessori philosophy. The Physical Education & Extended Day Teacher will be a part of our Specials teaching team and work under the direction of the Assistant Head of School to ensure that the curriculum and pedagogy honor and elevate the traditions and cultures of our children (PK3 - 6th grade) and school community. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Physical Education teacher will work with our Primary, Lower, and Upper Elementary classrooms (ages 3 to 12) to deliver Physical Education lessons.

The position is responsible for delivering dynamic, hands-on, and educational lessons that align with Lee's core values, the Montessori philosophy, and Lee's Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist (ABAR) work.

Note: This is a 25-hour-per-week position, typically 11:15-3:45.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Draft and implement a coherent and developmentally appropriate Physical Education curriculum to linguistically and culturally diverse students.
  2. Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and other instructional materials and methods;
  3. Use instructional practices in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and in ways that affirm all children, multiple Englishes, multiple languages, multicultural practices, and identity expression;
  4. Reinforce (and develop) school-wide rules and expectations that respect the backgrounds and culture of children of the global majority;
  5. Daily room setup and breakdown, including but not limited to moving materials, supplies, and equipment necessary and setting up classrooms;
  6. Support the management of recess, including planning, set-up, and ensuring smooth transitions.
  7. Collaborate with Specials Team and School Leadership to ensure quality of all PE lessons.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist with school day activities (arrival/dismissal, recess, lunch, transitions);
  2. Maintain paper and electronic student files;
  3. Participate in mandatory professional development trainings;
  4. Seek training in ABAR and culturally relevant curriculum and pedagogy;
  5. Perform additional administrative and support duties as needed


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience with the Montessori Method preferred.
  • At least two years teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Have a firm commitment to upholding the school's mission.
  • Experience in individual and collaborative curriculum development.
